How to avoid buying duplicate clothes
Use a wishlist and a quick wardrobe check before buying.
Name the job
Write down what you want the new item to do: an everyday layer, comfortable work shoes or a warm coat. Look for a piece you already own that does the same job. A duplicate may still be useful, but make it a deliberate choice.
Build three outfits
Before buying, identify three combinations with clothes and shoes you own. Check care requirements, fabric, fit, return conditions and whether the item suits your actual climate and activities. If the combinations are hard to name, save it and wait.
Review your wishlist
Revisit after a few days or a season. Remove items that no longer solve a real need, and compare remaining options. Tracking what you own helps distinguish a true gap from a piece that is simply hard to see in an overcrowded closet.
