How to plan a capsule wardrobe

Build a smaller set of outfits around your real life, without a fixed item count.

Start with your week

Write down the occasions you actually dress for: work, errands, exercise, evenings and travel. Notice what you wear most often and which clothes feel comfortable. A capsule should serve those days, not an imagined lifestyle.

Choose pieces that work together

Start with a few bottoms, tops, layers and shoes you enjoy. Lay out complete outfits and check whether each piece works with at least two others. A small palette can help, but prints, color and favorite statement pieces belong if you wear them.

Test before buying

Wear the combinations for a week and note what is missing or uncomfortable. Do laundry and weather make the plan practical? Add an item only when it solves a repeated problem; there is no universal number of pieces you must own.
